Effectiveness of Behavioral Theories (Essay Sample) Content: Effectiveness of Behavioral Theories Name of Student Institution affiliation The behavior change theory of choice is that of health belief model; the theory tends to look at the perceived threats of a given diseases or diseases in general as well as the overall benefit of changing behavior with an aim of determining if and why an individual might adopt a change in behavior. The theory applies to health promotion program in some ways, patients tend to have a fixed belief about illness, and this plays a significant role in hindering the success of health workers in trying to persuade the conservers of these beliefs to change their mind regarding ideas such as when one suffers from HIV/AIDS. They see themselves as already dead which is usually not true, and this affects them( Glanz Orleans, 2008). Behavioral theories have tried as much as possible to shape the health behaviors, most of them have emerged successful since the output has indicated that the individual's health seeking behaviors have drastically improved, women have assimilated to these theories more than men, and they seek health services more than their male counterparts. Factors that led to the decision to apply the health belief model are, human beings are emotional beings, and whenever they fall sick. It tends to affect their overall psychological behavior and, in the long run, this affects their health, also, some of the myths and misconceptions about health makes an individual belief in superstitions rather than real health services.
